YOUTH PLAYERS GRIND OUT DRAW FOR SUN XI

The Sun XI played at Firle and on losing the toss found themselves in the field. Dave Brook opened with a tight spell and Will Dawes, Russ Ferrier and Johnny Stean took 2 wickets apiece leaving them 130 for 5, But a 6th wicket partnership of 85 in 12 over set Palmers 216 to win.

The chase didn't go to plan and we fell to 24 for 5. A good partnership from Russ Ferrier (21) and Johnny Stean (24) in 14 overs didn't seem enough to save the match. Another mini collapse saw the team at 79 for 9, with 8.5 overs remaining with 13 year old Charlie Byard  and 15 year old Ellis Dickson at the crease.

Asked to stay there as long as possible, they blocked the good balls, left the wide ones and hit the bad ones. Neither gave a chance and 8.5 overs later the walked off the pitch with their heads held high, to much applause from their team mates, ant the match saved.

WELL DONE GUYS!!

SUN XI PLAY 6-A-SIDE AFTER BUXTED PARK CALL OFF

The Sunday XI turned up looking forward to a match against Busted Park, however the message that Buxted Park had called off on Friday filter through.

As tea was ready and the players had their kit, they decide to have a 6-a-side match, talk a spectator into playing.

Now, how to decide the teams - back to school! Ted (Moriarty) and Ellis (Holmes) were chosen as captains and picked their teams.

With the shortage of player to score and umpire, Jon Sears did both with Amelia Brook at square leg. It was a good laugh, especially seeing four different keepers on show, and all 12 players having a bowl.

The scorecard is available here. Although names had to be changed as the match doesn't count towards averages. Can you recognise the players?

1XI DRAW LOSE OUT IN CLOSE MATCH WHILE 2ND XI STRUGGLE AGAIN.

Horsted Keynes set the 1st XI 194 to win with Chris Green and James Dawes taking 3 wickets a piece. In the chase the side ended a little behind the required rate and needed 20 runs or so of the last few overs.

As the attempted to open up the last few wickets fell and end up just 16 runs short.

The 2nd XI bowled well to restrict Smallfield 2 to 132 all out, with Dave Brook bowling a good spell to end up taking 3 for 23.

The chase failed to materialise after losing the top 3 quickly.

Jamie Hendrick and Neil Dickson tried to pull it out of the bag. After the ball was found following a 6 into the nearby field, Jamie tried another big shot and was caught on the boundary.

The middle and lower order tried to nurdle the rest of the runs but could not keep out the Smallfield bowlers and were bowled out for 71.

PALMERS 1st XI - RUNNERS UP IN MID-SUSSEX DIV 2

Cuckfield 4 conceded their match against the 1st XI giving an automatic 30 point win.

However after starting the day in third place, Colemans Hatch could only manage a draw against Hurstpierpoint, but Ashdown Forest demolished Copthorne to take the title, 11 points clear of the 1st XI.

The 2nd XI bowled Burgess Hill 3 out for 109 with a fantastic display of swing bowling by Damian Thorne who to 6 for 45. The batting was not the high point of the day but crept over the  line and  won by 4 wickets to record a 30 point win.

This has left the 2nd XI in 10th place in Div 3, however one result is outstanding and can bump us down to 11th.

The Sunday XI lost to Bolney by 9 wickets.
